UNIT ZERO: How to Start a School Year of Success
with Janet Moore
Regardless of what academic knowledge your students have (or don’t have) when they walk into your classroom, this could be the best year of your teaching and learning career… and it all begins with “Unit Zero”.
Set your students - and yourself - up for success this school year. The first few weeks of the school year are critical for establishing relationships and cultivating a classroom environment that supports rigorous learning. In this session, participants will learn how to implement “Unit Zero” in order to kick off the school year with lessons and activities that prioritize social-emotional learning (SEL), foster classroom relationships, AND get students engaged in meaningful academics.
Implementing Unit Zero has the power to:
- Integrate SEL into academic instruction
- Develop student problem-solving, critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills
- Cultivate a true growth mindset in you and your students
- Rejuvenate a love of learning (and teaching)
- Lower stress levels for you and your
- students at the beginning of the school year
- Increase differentiated instruction within your classroom
- Establish classroom norms and routines that will result in high levels of academic growth throughout the school year
