Now more than ever we need kids to be engaged in meaningful hands-on games and activities with manipulatives that intrigue and capture their attention. This very basic workshop will help you rebuild Kindergarten concepts that lay the foundation for First and Second-grade operational fluency.   Concepts covered include: Place Value whole numbers and decimals; fact fluency; mixed operations; multi-digit
operations; fraction equivalency.
 

In this session, teachers will gain the knowledge, skills & expertise to confidently teach their students concepts related to fractions, decimals, percents & ratios. Students will have fun as they learn how
fractions can actually be easy as they learn through the games & activities.

Take a Chance on Probability Games

After a year of covid, many students have not fully mastered basic addition and subtraction and need daily practice with manipulatives, not just paper and pencil practice. You will learn how to use simple cards and dice, socially distancing the
games to teach and rebuild the operational concepts for these grade levels.
  Concepts covered: base ten activities; comparing &
ordering numbers to millions; comparing & ordering with decimals; rounding; number line activities for place value.
 

Teachers will learn a variety of hands-on games & strategies that help students understand the interactions of chance, probability as well as interpreting & inferring graphs. Strategies for teaching the games virtually or in-person but physically distanced will be shared & modeled.

and Linear Equations

With online learning, many students have not fully mastered two and three-digit addition and subtraction and need daily practice with manipulatives, not just paper and pencil practice. In this workshop games & strategies using cards and regular dice will be taught to assist you in bringing students back to current grade level math learning.   In this module, teachers will learn effective strategies to facilitate hands-on learning specifically targeted for solitaire and at-home situations.  

In this module, teachers will learn a variety of engaging and challenging games and activities that focus on helping students understand Algebra, Expressions and Formulas, and Linear Equations.

Virtual Lessons Exciting?

In this workshop games and strategies using cards and regular dice will be taught for working on bringing student math learning back to grade level.   Concepts covered include: addition/multiplication fact fluency; multi-digit adding/subtraction with
carrying/borrowing; multi-digit multiplication/division; mixed operations and order of operations.
  Strategies for teaching the games virtually or in-person but physically distanced will be shared and modeled. Participants may watch these sessions according to their own schedule, when and where they want.

Math Game Favorites

   
This workshop will contain some repeats from all of the primary modules – they are the student favorites and games that families can hopefully find the time and the materials to do over the summer. Games will incorporate the use of cards and regular dice.   In this module, teachers will learn effective strategies to facilitate hands-on learning through old favorites and many NEW favorite math games that 3rd to 5th-grade students clamor to play again and again.    
         

 

John and Jane Felling have been in education for over 35 years. Both are published authors and have provided consultant insight and expertise in the areas of Math, English Language Arts, Physical Education, Teaching, and School Administration. They have presented at many national conferences and conventions including ASCD Conferences on Teaching Excellence, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics National and regional conventions as well as many provincial and state conventions throughout North America.
