Midwest Social-Emotional Learning
in Schools Summit
Join national, regional and local practitioners to learn how students are gaining skills to understand and manage their emotions in their learning spaces. Latest research, practical classroom applications and overreaching philosophies will take learning leaders to the next level in SEL implementation.
Breakout sessions, panels, featured school programs and “SEL Talks” will share the outstanding successes of learning leaders who are currently implementing Social-Emotional Learning in classrooms across the country.
Opening Keynote, Marc Brackett, Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, will focus on the role of emotional intelligence in learning, decision-making, relationship quality, well-being, performance and organizational climate.
Carla Tantillo Philibert is the Founder of Mindful Practices, an organization dedicated to creating equitable learning environments through Social-Emotional Learning, Yoga and Mindfulness. Carla’s keynote address on the second day will explore the use of data and assessment to bridge the gap between Social-Emotional Learning theory and practice.
Tom Hierck will provide the closing keynote. Tom is an experienced teacher, administrator and district leader who will provide keys to a positive learning environment in classrooms.
Paul Solarz, a classroom teacher, will share his philosophy of Learn like a Pirate.
Kay Douglas is a Senior Consultant with the Texas Association of School Boards providing training in team building, ethics, roles and responsibilities, and motivation.
Kiljoong Kim is a Policy Analyst with Chapin Hall of the University of Chicago.
