Student-Centered Coaching is an evidence-based instructional coaching model that shifts the focus from ‘fixing’ teachers to collaborating with them to design instruction that targets student outcomes. In this session, participants will learn the guiding principles and core practices for Student-Centered Coaching. Please note that the target audience for our learning includes instructional coaches, administrators, and district leaders who are new to Student-Centered Coaching. We will focus on the following:

  • Compare Student-Centered Coaching with other coaching models
  • Explore the core practices for Student-Centered Coaching, including measuring the impact of coaching cycles
  • Learn the role of student evidence as an essential component of coaching
  • Uncover strategies for organizing and scheduling the coaching work

Implementing Student-Centered Coaching demands that we navigate many factors. This includes building a culture for coaching, honing our coaching moves, and defining the coaching role. In this session, we will cover how these factors can be leveraged to ensure that you get the most out of the instructional coaching role. The target audience for our learning includes instructional coaches who have been implementing Student-Centered Coaching for at least two years, as well as administrators and school leaders who lead coaching efforts in their school/district. We will explore the following:

  • Uncover practices for ensuring that the principal and coach are unified in their vision for coaching
  • Learn moves for leveraging openings into coaching partnerships
  • Understand how to develop strategies for increasing teacher ownership, agency, and collective efficacy
  • Problem-solve current dilemmas related to current coaching work
