Participants will build on material learned in the ‘Demystifying the NGSS’ professional learning series. This session will include a model activity to ground discussion on evaluating resources based on a nationally recognized rubric to determine alignment with the NGSS. Attendees will establish a framework for assessing and becoming critical consumers of science resources to help meet the vision of the NGSS.

Participants will:

• Be introduced to a rubric that considers NGSS alignment
• Evaluate a model activity using the rubric
• Understand if teaching or curricula are aligned with the current standards
• Consider ways to shift your current teaching to better align with the NGSS

Meet Presenter Jeff Spencer...

As a classroom teacher, Jeff was interested in making science engaging, relevant, and accessible for all students. He was a high school science teacher in Aurora, Colorado during the adoption of the NGSS and served in many ways to design NGSS-aligned activities, train and support teachers in using NGSS principles in their classrooms, and consider how science can relate to issues in students’ everyday lives.
